MBA Student Success and Academic Advising

The Student Success and Academic Advising team serves as academic support for graduate students in the Jones School of Business. We assist students with planning their course schedule, answering questions about degree requirements, matching their needs with available resources, and making appropriate referrals.

For questions about any of the below, we can be reached at mbaadvising@rice.edu.

Schedule an Academic Advising Appointment: Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor for questions concerning, but not limited to:

Scheduling an Academic Advising Appointment
Advising appointments are scheduled through NAVIGATE, our Student Success Management System. (If this is your first time scheduling an appointment, you can find detailed instructions on login and appointment scheduling here.)

Degree Works
Degree Works is a web-based, degree-auditing and tracking tool that enables students and advisors to evaluate academic progress towards graduation in accordance to university and academic program requirements as they are outlined in the General Announcements. This tool will allow students to quickly and easily identify which requirements have been satisfied, and which requirements are outstanding.

In addition, Degree Works can be used to perform a "what if" analysis to determine how current coursework and coursework in a student’s academic history would be used if a different academic program were selected.

For a comprehensive explanation on using Degree Works, please see details and step-by-step instructions provided by the Office of the Registrar here

Tutoring
Due to the demand for additional support in the following core courses - finance, accounting, data analysis,
and economics, we have partnered with Wyzant to offer students up to 20 hours of 1-to-1 online
professional tutoring paid for by the Jones School. More information (including the scheduling link) can be found here.

Rice Wellbeing and Counseling Center
The Wellbeing and Counseling Center provides support services for our full-time MBA students. We know that is can be difficult as a graduate student to get back into "student mode" and to balance academic and personal commitments. If you are struggling, please reach out to the Wellbeing Center.

Rice Disability Resource Center
It is the mission of the Disability Resource Center (DRC) to be committed to providing access to the educational environment for students. Students should proactively (at the start of the program) report to the DRC any disabilities for which they require accommodations. Any requests for accommodations must be processed through the DRC. The DRC will provide students with a letter documenting their disability, how it impacts the students, and recommended accommodations. It is then the student's responsibility to provide instructors with this letter and actively engage with them regarding their accommodations. New or short-term disabilities should be reported as soon as possible so that any necessary academic accommodations can be made.
