Do I need to register for my core courses?
Don't worry about the core courses — the Registrar team will add those for you. Just make sure all holds on your account have been removed.
How do I register for electives?
In order to support you with elective registration, we have multiple video resources:
When do I need to register for classes each semester to avoid late fee?
Students must be registered for at least one course during the designated registration period each semester, or a late registration fee of $75 will be incurred. Notice of these registration periods will be provided by the Jones School Registrar team, but generally speaking, they occur as follows:
Why am I getting an error when I try to add/drop a course in ESTHER?
The error message will indicate the type of error. Please reference the below for more details:
How do I apply for application-based courses?
Information about application-based courses can be found on the Application-Based Courses tab of the course list linked on the Calendars & Schedules. Please pay close attention to the open and close dates of each application, as they vary.
In order to apply for one of these courses, you need to click on the Additional Information area (on the right side of the course list link) and the link to apply will appear (if the application is open).
Application-based courses will be added to your schedule if your application for the course is approved. Each faculty member handles their application process a little differently, so the timing of selections will vary.
How does Program Priority work?
Because of the limited personal availability for students in each program, students in each format have LIMITED priority for the classes in their own schedule (aka, FT has priority for daytime classes, PMBA-E for evening, etc.). This limited priority is only in effect for a short period after the official registration week for the semester, and the specific date will be announced with each semester's registration instructions
If a class in your program's schedule is full, you may request to be added to the waitlist. As long as your request is submitted before the program priority deadline, you'll be guaranteed a seat—unless the class is already full with students from your program.
If you register for a course outside your program’s schedule and it fills before the priority deadline, you may be removed (in reverse order of registration) to make space for waitlisted students from that program. If removed, you’ll be notified and added to the top of the waitlist for that course.
How long will I be on the waitlist for a course?
We will check on the closed course enrollments every few weeks until we are closer to the start date for the course, at which time we will begin checking daily. If a spot opens in a closed course, we will offer the spot to the first person on the waitlist, giving them a day to accept or decline the spot before moving on to the next person on the waitlist.
What does it mean to audit a course?
You may choose to audit a course, rather than take it for credit, if the professor grants you permission. You must fill out the MBA Audit Form. Proof of professor permission uploaded to the form is required. The deadline for auditing is the same as the add/drop deadlines.
Each professor has his/her own definition of what it means to be an auditor in his/her course, so it is important for you to get clarification on that expectation when you request permission. We recommend that you take courses for credit until you have reached your elective credit requirement so that you do not audit a course that you later realize you need for graduation.
Audited courses do not count towards the requirements for graduation. Textbooks are also not provided for audited courses, though you will have full access to the Canvas course site.
My name is changing - what should I do?
If you need to update or change information such as your name, social security number, citizenship status, date of birth, tax ID number, or race/ethnicity that we currently have on file for you, you must submit the form via the secure upload form (link) along with a copy of one of the following: social security card, passport, birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree, tax ID number letter, or court order providing proof of the change to be made.
When do I need to finalize my courses?
Add/drop deadlines vary as they are based on the specific meeting schedule of the course (e.g. Term 1 vs. 2, evening vs. weekend). So that you have the most options available to you, we recommend making final fall decisions by August 1st (and final spring decisions by Jan. 2nd) and then making needed adjustments (based on personal/professional variables) where possible based on the specific deadline for each course. Please review the specific add/drop deadlines here.
How many classes do I need to take this semester to be “on track”?
Please review the Standard Degree Plan on your dedicated program page, as it indicates the recommended approach to completing electives for each cohort.
