Student Clubs and Involvement

The Jones School has many ways for you to get involved. We currently have over 30 active student clubs and associations, and a very active student government - The Jones Student Association (JSA). Our clubs and associations range in topic from industry - finance, economics, consulting, marketing - to affinity - Black, Asian, Hispanic and LGBTQ - to social - wine, beer, athletics. There are many opportunities for you to join these clubs and associations as 1st year students, and in many cases, take an active role in the leadership of those clubs as 1st year representatives.

This is also the case for the JSAP. The Jones Student Association for Professionals faciltates constructive communication between the student body and the administration, faculty, and staff at the Jones Graduate School of Business. Additionally, the JSAP creates an atmosphere which promotes interaction between all JGSB students and the community surounding the JGSB including; opportunities within Rice University, the Association of Rice Alumni, other top-tier MBA programs, and the international business community. As a result, the JSAP aims to maximize student access and opportunities, optimize learning, and increase the value of the Rice MBA. The JSA takes on four 1st year representatives every year in the fall, two from each section, that serve for the duration of the academic year.

Be sure to click on the photo above to check out a video to learn more about each of our clubs and associations. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Leanne Flores.

New Ops!

Rice Business has partnered with Mentor Collective to pair you with someone who can help you set and achieve goals, make connections, and prepare for the next steps in your career. It’s free and you can sign up now or check out the attached flyer.

What should I be doing now?

  • Complete the onboarding survey (this was due June 8)
  • Look over the onboarding checklist (there is 1 thing for you to do this week)
  • Review your Kickoff Schedule
  • Evening Students: Check which group you are in for Kickoff

Registration

Because the first year of your MBA program is lock-step, you will not need to register for any courses. Instead, the Registrar team will take care of this for you, ensuring that you are registered for the right classes.

We will be starting this process over the next couple of weeks., but for us to do so, you need to have cleared all of your registrations holds. If you haven’t already done so, you can find the directions on how to do this by clicking here. Not sure if you still have holds? The instructions show you how to check that as well!

Once you have been registered for your fall courses, you will receive an email from us detailing your fall schedule with instructions on how to double check that the registration is correct. Registration will give you access to your fall Canvas sites, available only after the professor has published the course site, which is typically about two weeks prior to the start of the class.

Have questions? You can reach the full JGSB team by emailing us at jgsbregistrar@rice.edu.
