The Career Development Office

Engaging with Employers

In order to best represent our school, we ask that you be sure to attend events (or cancel your RSVP) for events you have registered for. Many companies keep tabs on their RSVP lists, so it’s best to always put your best foot forward when it comes to managing your RSVPs for events. Additionally, it can be difficult, sometimes even impossible, to re-schedule an interview you were invited for on campus, particulary within 48 hours of the interview. If you think you might not be able to make an interview, inform one of our Employer Relations & Recruiting staff members immediately.

First Years: Complete an Intake with CDO to Access Recruiting in Your Second Year

Be sure to schedule your intake session with a career advisor through OWL-Careers in order to receive access to job postings next year. In the intake, we’ll share an overview of our services as well as provide some additional pointers based on your career interests. Your intake must be completed in Fall 2018 semester for recruiting access.

Private Equity Event – 11/6

Investment Management & Private Equity Networking Reception – 11/6/18, 6:00pm-7:30pm, AFC

Please join us for a cocktail networking reception with Houston’s leading Investment Management, Private Equity, Research, and Hedge Fund professionals. This is not a recruiting event, but rather a chance to become part of a network with powerful leaders in financial services. While this event may help a few of you with your current job search, it will undoubtedly aide everyone in forming meaningful relationships that will be of great benefit for your long-term career. Dress is Business Casual.

Second Years: Quorom Hiring for VP Role

Technology company, Quorum, has partnered with the CDO to recruit for a VP of Financial Planning & Operations role. To learn more about the role and to apply, view the job posting on OWL-Careers.

Job Search Resources: Who Hires from Jones?

If you would like to target employers who have previously hired Jones MBA students, there are a few resources you can tap into to build and strengthen your target list as you continue your current job search (Second Years), or even, to start getting acquainted with if you think you think you’ll be applying next year (First Years).
Need help? We encourage you to make an appointment with one of our career advisors on OWL-Careers to assess your strategy, perfect your resume, and practice your interviewing technique.

Input Regarding Rice Business Coffee Shop

As many of you are aware, Rice Business School will soon be opening a coffee shop (tentatively opening Summer/Fall of 2019). As a part of the planning process, a group of 1st year FTMBA students are developing a marketing plan for the coffee shop. Part of the marketing research is to understand the needs of the coffee shop customers (YOU!), and how to best serve those needs.

To help the students complete their marketing plan, we are asking the JGSB community to please take this marketing survey. The survey will take approximately 3 – 5 minutes and the results will hopefully, be used to influence the design and offerings for the Rice Business Coffee Shop for us all to enjoy! The survey will be available to take until Friday, November 9th.

Rice Business Coffee Shop Marketing Survey: https://riceuniversity.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bEj49njGocjMcq9

Thank You in advanced for taking the time to complete this survey. We are excited for the opening of Rice Business School’s very own coffee shop! Please direct any questions or concerns in regard to the marketing survey to 1st year FTMBA student Norma Torres Mendoza, Norma.M.Torres@rice.edu.

Zoom Accounts

Many of you have been requesting the use of a “Pro” Zoom account (so that you can meet for longer than 45 minutes). Unfortunately the university does not have enough Zoom licenses for each student that requests one. We are working on a solution and will communicate this in the next week or so. In the short term, please plan to extend the free version as needed. If you have questions please reach out to our Solutions Support Team at help@rice.edu.
