Jones School Registrar

Spring Registration

Class of 2019: Registration opens today at 5pm! We will be available in room 218 or at jgsbregistrar@rice.edu beginning at 5pm in case you run into any issues. Remember: You must be registered for at least one course by Friday at 5pm or you will be charged a late registration fee. Your core registration (handled by us) will fulfill this requirement if your registration holds are removed.

You received an email on Monday, October 22 with the subject line “Spring 2019 Course schedule and Information.” This email includes your spring course list as well as the most important details you need regarding spring registration. Don’t forget that applications for the Application-Based Courses go live periodically through 11/12 and that deadlines run from 11/15-12/19. Check out the Application-Based Courses tab on the course list for details.

As a reminder, all of the logistics information you need can be found on the Jones School Registrar and Advising CampusGroups site–just navigate to your program, then the Registration & Program FAQs section. You can also track your graduation progress by looking at your DegreeWorks account, or schedule an Advising Appointment to discuss any concerns you have about the upcoming semester. Class of 2020: If you haven’t already done so, you need to remove your registration holds ASAP! Click here for instructions. If your holds are not removed, we will not be able to register you for your spring core courses—you must be registered by 5pm on Friday, or you will receive a late registration fee.

 

First Year Students - Preventing Sexual Harassment Training

All first-year students are required to complete the Preventing Sexual Harassment Training. As communicated via email last week, you must complete the training by Monday, November 19, or you will have a hold added to your account.

The training module is linked through the instructions page or can be reached directly here: https://catalog.rice.edu/browse/eeo/courses/lasting-choices. (Be sure to look at the instructions so that you log in properly!)  Please contact IT (help@rice.edu) if you encounter any issues with the training.

 

First Year Students - Updated 2yr Calendar

An updated 2yr calendar has been posted to CampusGroups, as of 11/8. The Global Field Experience preparation dates (included on the Spring 2019 Course List) are now included on the calendar view.

 

Tutors

You can schedule a session with a tutor through the online link or through the Tutoring Section under the Registrar tab in CampusGroups.

Online Course Prerequisites –
Required for On-Campus Recruiting Access

Time is running out to schedule your intake session with the Career Development Office! During your intake session, we’ll get to know your background and career goals, share our resources and processes with you, and provide suggestions on your first initial steps towards your individual goals.

Completing an intake is required to engage in on-campus recruiting next year, and must be done by Dec. 1!

To schedule an intake, log on to OWL-Careers and access the “appointments” tab, then select an available 30-minute time slot dedicated to an intake session.

Crack the Case with David Ohrvall Levels I & II

The Career Development Office will be having David Ohrvall, author of Crack the Case, join us on November 30 to provide a complete overview of how to master the case interview. You will be challenged to think beyond simple frameworks, participate often, and learn to handle a variety of analytical problems in the case interview process. The workshop is highly recommended for anyone interested in Consulting. For those not pursuing consulting, the use of case interviews is increasing in a variety of industries and functions, including marketing, energy and technology. The methods and frameworks taught are applicable to all careers. Note: You must have attended Level I (either this year or last year) in order to attend Level II. Sign up on OWL-Careers.

 

Healthcare Coffee Chats

Interested in healthcare and networking with some local alums employed in the industry? The Career Development Office will be holding coffee chats with alums who work in the healthcare industry to assist you in your networking efforts. Our alums on deck to hold coffee chats work at Stryker and MD Anderson Cancer Center, respectively. Registration is open on OWL-Careers, so sign up now and reserve your spot!

First-Year Students - Textbook Pilot for Spring 2019

We are launching a pilot program for textbooks, which will allow students to get their spring textbooks in the format of their choice (new or used hardbacks, e-Text, or rentals) from the Rice Campus Bookstore by utilizing a credit amount placed on your bookstore account.

David Tucker, manager at the bookstore, will speak to first-year EMBA and PMBA-W students this Friday, 12:30pm-1:30pm in the AFC. If you have communications on Friday or are otherwise free, come have lunch on campus and listen to the presentation. If you can’t attend, the information will be emailed out afterwards.
