Jones Student Association for Professionals Welcome
Dear Class of 2018,
On behalf of the Jones Student Association - Professional, welcome to the Jones School and to the Rice family! We could not be more excited that you’ve chosen the Jones Graduate School of Business to further your professional development and to establish friendships that will last a lifetime.
The first weeks of the first year can seem daunting, but know that you will learn valuable skills and build important relationships with your colleagues as you complete immersion and kick off your core class schedule. Please know that you are not alone and that there is an entire team of professionals that work tirelessly to make this the best experience possible for you. As you settle into the Jones School you’ll get to know the members of the Dean’s Suite, the Office of Student Services (OSS), the Office of the Registrar, the Career Management Center (CMC), the support and building services staff, and the many others that make our school operate efficiently. I encourage you to make it a point to say hello and to get to know these individuals.
Additionally, as your second-year peers, the Class of 2017 hopes to make you feel at home from your first day on campus. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the JSAP Extended Committee with any questions, comments, or ideas that you might have regarding our student experience.
I want to extend a special invitation to you all to join us for some extra-curricular activities over the coming weeks. The JSAP Social Chairs have planned a series of Summer PCFs (Post-Class Festivities) and a few weekend outings to give our classes an opportunity to meet and connect ahead of the Fall semester and you can find them all on CampusGroups:
Hello Class of 2018,
I wanted to take a moment to talk with you about the MBAP Mentor Program. The MBAP Mentor Program evolved based on previous students’ requests to learn more “insider information” – and who better to divulge all the best tips than second year students who have walked the walk already. With that being said, 33 students have stepped up to serve as team mentors and answer any questions you may have throughout the year.
Every student, as part of your first semester team is assigned a mentor. Thus, on day one, everyone is part of the Mentor program during their first year. But like everything you will do over the next two years, what you gain from your Mentor depends on how much you put into the relationship. You will have time during Kickoff on July 15 to officially meet your team mentor and learn about what you can expect from the Mentor Program and events we will have for all of you throughout the year. Learn more about your mentors here: “Meet the Mentors Snapshots”.
Your mentors are truly excited to meet you at Kickoff. Remember to give back as much as you get and take full advantage of what your mentor and the MBAP Mentor Program has to offer. We look forward to meeting you all soon!
Best regards,
Michelle Kaltenbach
Associate Director of Student Services
