Welcome to CampusGroups
Welcome to CampusGroups, the student life platform that you will use during your tenure as a Jones Graduate School of Business Student. CampusGroups is a web-based student resources and activities management platform. It is where the Student Program Office, the JGSB Registrar Department, the Career Development Office, and Student Clubs will communicate with you and post resources for your use. It includes a master calendar of school-wide, program specific, and club specific programming and events, event registration, payment links for events and merchandise, as well as electronic tickets for events that you are registered for. While you might not have need to use CampusGroups daily, you will definitely want to familiarize yourself with the system and you should be logging on to CampusGroups weekly.
Please see below for a walk through of the various resources on CampusGroups that you will use more frequently. CampusGroups also has an app that you can download and have CampusGroups on the go. You can find the CampusGroups app in the Apple Store and Google Play by searching for "Rice Business". There will be a walkthrough of the app in next week's edition of The Summer Scoop.

Rice Facts
The University's Dark History
On May 18, 1891, Massachusetts-born businessman William Marsh Rice chartered the William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Literature, Science, and Art as a gift to the city of Houston, where he made his fortune. The terms of the charter required that work on the new institute would begin only after Rice's death.
On September 23, 1900, Rice was chloroformed to death by his valet, Charlie Jones, who had conspired with an unscrupulous lawyer, Albert Patrick, to murder the aging millionaire and claim his estate using a forged will. When an autopsy ordered by Rice's attorney, Captain James A. Baker, revealed evidence of poisoning, Jones agreed to provide state's evidence in return for immunity from prosecution. Patrick was convicted of murder. He was pardoned in 1912, the same year that classes began at the Rice Institute. The Rice Institute opened on September 23, 1912, the anniversary of Mr. Rice's murder.

What should I be doing now?
This week you should be working through the Holds Removal Process. The Registrar's Office will be registering you for all of your first semester classes soon, but will not be able to if you have not removed all of the holds on your account. This item was due on June 18th, it is imperative that you complete it THIS WEEK! If you do not, we will not be able to register you for your classes and you will not be able to access your course materials.
Have you looked at the requirements for your Health Data Form, due July 1st? As part of this form, your doctor must certify your last tetanus and MMR vaccinations—if you don’t have these records, you must get booster shots which is a 2-shot process for MMR, requiring a month between doses. You cannot be registered for your fall courses until the corresponding hold is removed, so start this today!
You should still be working your way through your Onboarding Checklist and the Career Development Office assignments. Make sure that you are keeping up with the assignments and are turning them in by the deadline.
We will continue to reach out to you by email and by phone to collect past due assignments. The deadlines of these assignments are very important because the assignments give us the information that we need to be fully prepared for you to start the program in a few weeks. Please make sure that you are keeping up with deadlines and turning things in on time.
If you are on top of all of your assignments and you are still looking for something to do, here is a list of recommended reading:
