Welcome from the Rice Business Student Association

Class of 2026,

On behalf of the Class of 2025:

Howdy! Welcome to Houston and to Rice Business! These next two years will be a mixture of fast-paced learning, meeting new people, and diving into unexpected experiences! We are so excited for you join the community this fall, and we are delighted to integrate you all into the opportunities that Rice Business provides. The MBA experience is a thrilling ride and we hope the journey grows to be strong enough to take flight!

Key Points of your MBA:

Build Your Network

Building your current and future network is a cornerstone of the MBA program. Throughout Launch Week(s), you will encounter numerous opportunities through student organizations, alumni events, and, most importantly, within your cohort. Keep your eyes and doors open, and step out of your comfort zone. You will be pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone is. Here are some tips:

  • DO Engage in Student Organizations and Rice Events
    • Enjoy Career Clubs, Affinity Clubs, and Interest/Social Clubs! We recommend joining at least one of each during your first year!
    • Partios: Full Time RBSA flagship themed event takes place EVERY Thursday! It is an amazing chance to meet your classmates in your cohort, the second years, and staff. Your Social Chairs are Carlos Marchese and Chakib Khechai, and they have been working hard to bring a memorable experience. Reach out to RBSA for suggestions, and make sure to register and attend!
    • Rice Follies: At the end of the year Rice Full Time MBA will be hosting a homegrown comedy skit that is unique to each batch!
  • DO get out of your comfort zone, be mindful of other cultures, and try new experiences!
    • Houston is a foodie city and incredibly diverse culturally. Rice is next the Museum District, Zoo, and the Theater Under the Stars (Tuts).
  • DO meet new people, be curious, and utilize resources!
    • Rice Full Time takes in about 50% of people from the around the world and the other half are not all from Texas. Everyone has a unique background and I encourage you to be curious about what everyone brings to the table.
    • Rice Business offers a wide range of networking education resources, but take advantage of events hosted be Big Rice. There are plays, art shows, orchestra concerts, Beer Bike, football, basketball, soccer, and the Baker Institute to hangout with others!

Take Initiative and Ownership in Recruiting:

Recruiting begins as soon as you have been accepted into the MBA, often faster and more unexpectedly than anticipated. The Career Development Office (CDO) offers office hours you can book once a week for general consulting or specific inquiries. Get familiar with our staff early as you can and be open to a range of internship opportunities. Recruitment opportunities can arise out of nowhere and extremely fast, so always be prepared.

  • DO explore the CDO Website!
  • DO consider your industry interest and open to adjacent internship opportunities!
  • DO take on leadership positions to build your resume!
  • DO speak with Career student organizations to help your recruiting journey!

Time Management:

MBA is all about time management—balancing time and management equally. MBA is a marathon, not a sprint. Planning ahead, and include time for yourself (like the gym) can reduce stress and will balance. It is natural to feel overwhelmed and sometimes vulnerable, but know you are not alone in this journey. Lean into your Core Team, your cohort, your friends and family, and the resources Rice offers.

Congratulations!, we are thrilled to have you here and we welcome you to our home. Join the WhatsApp chat and stay looped into emails! Your RBSA team and Class of 2025 will be here to lean on and show you around. We look forward to meeting you on campus and witnessing you embark on one of the most exciting times of your life.
