The Career Development Office

Join Us in Celebrating YOU with Our Newly Instated Ball-Drop Ceremony!

Our office is starting a new tradition at Rice Business!

The Ball Drop Ceremony is an event to celebrate your hard work and success in the job search process.

Here’s how it works:
When you accept an offer for an internship or job, come into our office, ring our owl bell, and we’ll hand you a celebratory stress ball which you will then sign with your name and an inspirational quote. We will document the event with a photo (with your permission of course) and have you drop your stress ball into our basket as we celebrate you reaching the next step in your career and reaching the goal you have worked so hard for.

You can stop by anytime we’re open to have your ball drop celebration. ALL students are welcome!

Online Course Registrants: First Assignment Due January 20th

If you opted to sign up for the CDO Online Course on Canvas to access recruiting in your second year, this is a friendly reminder that your first assignment, the Informational Interview, will be due on Jan. 20th.

We look forward to helping you maximize your potential in your second year through these assignments!

Programming for International Students:

International Alumni Career Panel
International students, we encourage you to attend our International Alumni Career Panel on January 25th from 3-5 PM, where you will have the opportunity to learn about various post-MBA career paths taken by some of our international alumni. Our panelists will share tips on how they successfully navigated the job search. This will be a great opportunity to build relationships with local professionals who have walked in your shoes!

CPT/OPT Workshop
International students, attend our CPT/OPT Workshop tailored for MBAs on January 31 from 11:30-12:30 in 212.

During this workshop, you will learn the ins and outs of the CPT and OPT processes. Every year, we have students who lose opportunities or have to delay their opportunities due to a misunderstanding/lack of awareness regarding the CPT and OPT process. It’s imperative that you’re aware of these processes as you will often be advocating for yourself throughout your internship and job search.

Knowing the CPT/OPT process well actually better equips you to have these important conversations with employers. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP on OWL-Careers only.

For more information on these events and to RSVP, visit OWL-Careers

Case Interview Prep with Marc Cosentino

Planning on pursuing a career consulting or want to brush up on case interviewing for the various industries that implement casing into the interview process?

Join us for a case interview preparation workshop with Marc Cosentino, author of Case in Point, named by the Wall Street Journal as the “MBA Bible”. This is a Saturday event. You will have the opportunity to sign up for small groups to practice casing (posted under "Mock Interviews" - Three 60 minute sessions from 1:00-4:00 on the same day). You must attend the prep workshop in order to attend a small groups session.

This event is targeted to 1st year PMBAs to help them prepare for consulting recruiting in early fall, but all programs and years are welcome to refine and brush up on casing skills.

For more information and to RSVP, visit OWL-Careers

Leveraging LinkedIn Through Your Career Progression

Learn how to communicate your brand effectively and utilize LinkedIn to its fullest potential by attending our workshop on Monday, January 28th.

Save the Date: Career Expo

Don’t miss this chance to network with 100+ employers with internships and full-time opportunities in all career clusters at Rice’s largest recruiting event of the year!

The Expo will be held February 1, 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Gibbs Recreation Center. The Expo is a great way to meet recruiters and prepare yourself for a career transition. The Expo is co-presented by the undergrad/other grad program career center (CCD) and by the CDO in the Jones School. The majority of recruiters are seeking undergrad talent, but many recruit MBAs and more experienced hires, or they can refer you to others in their company.
