Student Clubs and Involvement
The Jones School has many ways for you to get involved. We currently have over 30 active student clubs and associations, and a very active student government - The Jones Student Association (JSA). Our clubs and associations range in topic from industry - finance, economics, consulting, marketing - to affinity - Black, Asian, Hispanic and LGBTQ - to social - wine, beer, athletics. There are many opportunities for you to join these clubs and associations as 1st year students, and in many cases, take an active role in the leadership of those clubs as 1st year representatives.
This is also the case for the JSAP. The Jones Student Association for Professionals faciltates constructive communication between the student body and the administration, faculty, and staff at the Jones Graduate School of Business. Additionally, the JSAP creates an atmosphere which promotes interaction between all JGSB students and the community surounding the JGSB including; opportunities within Rice University, the Association of Rice Alumni, other top-tier MBA programs, and the international business community. As a result, the JSAP aims to maximize student access and opportunities, optimize learning, and increase the value of the Rice MBA. The JSAP takes on four 1st year representatives every year in the fall, one from each evening section, and one from the weekend cohort, that serve for the duration of the academic year.
You might be thinking, "When can I start joining these clubs?" The answer is in late August when students from all programs are back in Fall classes. You'll also have an opportunity to meet these clubs and associations at the very first partio, aka Clubs Partio. This is a terrific way for you to learn more information about our associations, and have your questions answered. If you reach out to clubs and associations now on CampusGroups, do not be surprised if you don't get registered immediately. This is completely normal since the summer time is typically when associations get things set up for the academic year.
