Hello All,
The good news is, you are all very careful readers and caught the errors I made in my original logistics post. (While I hate making errors, I love to see that you are reading my communications!) Specifically:
- TUESDAY night's dinner is in the Student Commons. (Classes start on Tuesday, not Monday as my brain is determined to make true.) The attached schedule is correct; the language I originally used in the Meals section below was not.
- The EMBA 991 OWL-Space site does not include a pre-work memo. You should refer to the course syllabus for the items you need to be completing.
The better news is that since I needed to issue a correction today, I am releasing the team list a day earlier than I stated in my original communication. I have included your Rice email addresses so that you can reach out to one another before school starts, if you like.
The information below has been corrected per the above, but is otherwise the same as what you received earlier today.
Residency
- You will be staying at Hotel ZaZa all week, checking in on Monday after 4:00pm and checking out on Saturday morning before class.
5701 Main Street
713-526-1991
www.hotelzaza.com
- When you check in, you need to indicate that you are with the EMBA Program. You will be asked for identification and a credit card for incidentals. The University is not responsible for hotel parking fees (other than Monday night), any meals you consume at the hotel (aside from Monday’s reception), or any other incidentals.
- Please contact Lina (lybell@rice.edu) if you have any concerns about the hotel.
Monday’s Welcome Reception
- Will take place at Hotel ZaZa from 6:00-8:00p in the Phantom Ballroom C
- Dress is business attire.
- Parking validation will be provided for your guest for the duration of the reception and for you overnight on Monday only.
Transportation
- It has been our experience that students have used their own vehicles to travel back and forth between the campus and hotel. Other options include walking or requesting the hotel courtesy shuttle.
- You may wish to drive to campus on Tuesday so that you can leave your car in the garage all week (free). Alternately, you may choose to pay for your own parking at Hotel ZaZa and travel back and forth as you like.
- When you check out of the hotel on Saturday, you can bring your luggage back to campus and either store it in your car in the garage or bring it to our office (room 127) for storage.
Meals
- Light breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks will be provided on campus.
- Most meals will take place in the Anderson Family Commons, room 115. However, Tuesday night’s dinner will be in the Student Commons, room 104. Details can be found on the schedule (see below).
Attire
- Generally, casual dress is fine on most days. Layered clothing is recommended, as the building temperature fluctuates.
- Exceptions:
- Monday evening, Welcome Reception – Business attire
- Thursday evening, Outdoor activity planned – Please dress casually and wear comfortable shoes. Shorts/sneakers/sandals appropriate. (Feel free to bring a change of clothes to change into during dinner if you prefer.)
Misc.
- The detailed schedule for the week is attached and also located on the MBA for Executives CampusGropus website under Class of 2017/Calendars and Student Lists. (You will find the Term I schedule in this folder as well.)
- The team list (!) is attached. You can also find it on our CampusGroups website in the same folder as the Short Schedules (see above bullet).
- If you haven’t already, be sure to look at the EMBA 991 OWL-Space site and review the syllabus—you have quite a bit of reading to do! Try to have all of it done prior to Tuesday as you won’t have much free time during the week.
- We want to draw your attention to the campus tobacco policy here: http://www.rice.edu/tobacco-free/.
- The second year students will be with you here in the building and at meals all week and will participate in the Thursday evening fun event.
If you have any last minute questions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
--Melissa
