What is RBSAO?
The Rice Business Student Association for MBA@Rice (RBSAO) is a democratically-elected committee of students who represent you, your interests, and your needs to the school. RBSAO regularly hosts networking & social events, and partners with Rice staff and other organizations to provide student resources. The Executive Board is elected for a 6-month term that starts in April & October each year.
-
The President is our (MBA@Rice) primary representative to the university & the public, and presides over our board and extended committee.
-
The Vice President assists the President in leading and works closely with program administrators to resolve student issues.
-
The Treasurer is responsible for RBSAO’s finances.
-
The Secretary is responsible for keeping and maintaining all documentation related to the organization.
-
The Cohort Director is the liaison between each student cohort and the board, and provides resources and support to new students.
What is RBSAO working on right now?
-
RBSAO is working to build a more visible presence and gain more parity to the engagement and resources of the other MBA programs at Rice.
-
The MBA@Rice Spring Quadmester Kickoff is on Friday, April 21 at 6pm CST, in-person at the Bayou Heights Biergarten. This is a networking happy hour that features FREE drinks, FREE snacks, and FREE mingling with fellow MBA@Rice students, as well some Executive MBA & Professional MBA students.
-
The Student Guide Mentorship Program is a resource provided by RBSAO to connect new students with Student Guides that are further along in the program. We will be sending out an email later this week with more details about how to sign up for this great program. You can also email the Cohort Director if you are interested or have questions.
-
In collaboration with the Rice DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) office & CDO (Career Development Office), we will be hosting a virtual Mental Health Awareness event to help students work through balancing our heavy school workload with our jobs, families, and lives.
-
This summer, Rice will be celebrating the 5-year anniversary of the MBA@Rice program.
-
Our Beyond Houston Chair, Buchi Egolum, is working with the Cohort Director and the rest of the Board to find ways to further involve and engage MBA@Rice students who don’t live in the Houston area. If you live outside of the Houston area and you have questions on how to get more connected go ahead and send Buchi an email.
What are some helpful student resources?
CampusGroups — https://jones.campusgroups.com/events
CampusGroups is your connection to Rice events and the dozens of affinity organizations and student groups that put those events together. Whether you’re interested in the Consulting Club, Black Business Student Association, joining a virtual recruiting event from companies like Microsoft or E&Y, or finding out when the next Partio is—CampusGroups is how you get plugged in. You can sign up to become a member of different clubs and you can register for Rice events. This is also where you will register for any upcoming RBSAO events. Sign in with your Rice NetID to get started.
Student Success Resource Website — https://sites.google.com/2u.com/ricembaprogram/student-resources-and-opportunities
This website is maintained by the Student Success team at Rice and contains information about student resources, the MBA@Rice academic curriculum, “How-To” Guides, and more. RBSAO is working with our Student Success team to redesign the site and make it more functional and easy to use.

Follow the link above and open the folder that’s named for the year you started in the MBA@Rice program (for example, “2023”); then select the academic advising template for your cohort. This template gives you a full picture of your academic plan. Use this in tandem with the Class Registration Planning Tool mentioned below.
Class Registration Planning Tool — https://b9stu-reg-esther202010.rice.edu/StudentRegistrationSsb/ssb/term/termSelection?mode=plan
This tool can be accessed from ESTHER or directly from the link above. It allows you to search for the classes you’d like to/need to take in the next quadmester and add them to a “plan”. Once it’s time to register, having a plan means just clicking a button and then you’re done!
