Election season is here! Twice a year we get the opportunity to elect students who represent us and advocate for us to the school & community at large. Here’s all the info you need to know to get involved and to vote!
ROLES
There are ten positions available across two groups: the Executive Board and the Extended Committee.
The Executive Board is elected by popular vote to a six-month term and is made up of the following five roles:
President |
Leads the Extended & Executive Committees, making sure that RBSAO is in alignment with its charter. |
Vice President |
Tracks RBSAO initiatives and student issues. |
Cohort Director |
Liaison for each cohort and gets new students connected. |
Treasurer |
Supervises finances & budgetary record-keeping. |
Secretary |
Coordinates communications, publicizes activities, & maintains records. |
The Executive Board meets at least once a week for an hour.
The Extended Committee is selected by the incoming Executive Board for a six-month term and is made up of the following roles:
Academic & Career Development Chair |
Works with faculty & staff to address student concerns about curriculum & CDO issues. |
Marketing Chair |
Promote events & initiatives through email, social, Slack, & CampusGroups. |
Social & Beyond Houston Chair |
Represent remote student concerns & collaborate to schedule & plan virtual and in-person events. |
Clubs & External Relations Chair |
Work with Rice Business student clubs and the Alumni Association to get MBA@Rice students connected and involved. |
DEI Chair |
Collaborate with the D&I office to promote institutional DEI practices within the MBA@Rice program. |
The Extended Committee meets at least twice a month for an hour.
RUNNING FOR OFFICE
To declare your candidacy for either Executive Board or the Executive Committee, you have to submit a Letter of Intent. This is just a few paragraphs that describe who you are, why you want to run for office, and any relevant experience or expertise. Here are some examples.
The LOIs for Executive Board candidates will be made available for all MBA@Rice students to read during the election; the LOIs for Extended Committee candidates will be made available only for the new Executive Board to help them determine who they shall appoint to the new Extended Commitee.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the board of the Rice Business Student Association for Online for the last eighteen months, and as your President for the last two quadmesters. Your experiences, your opinions, and your voice matters. Whether it be by simply voting, showing up to events, sending an email with a problem or suggestion, or by running for a position on the board—please make sure that you are heard.
